CURE Auto Insurance and 94.5 PST Announce Winners of "Pay It Forward" Scholarship
Princeton, NJ (PRWEB) March 26, 2009 -- CURE Auto Insurance, a not-for-profit reciprocal exchange, and 94.5 PST announce David Kober of Monmouth Junction, N.J. as the winner of the fourth annual "Pay It Forward Scholarship Award." Kober will receive an award of up to $20,000 to be applied towards his tuition. Kober was also honored, along with four other finalists who received a $1,000 prize, at a dinner reception held in February.
The "Pay It Forward Scholarship" submission process called for young adults who had performed unselfish acts, compassionate works, or community action. Entrants then described these actions in a 250-word or less statement.
"We received a number of applicants with outstanding stories of service, and compassion," said Eric Poe, COO of CURE Auto Insurance. "Their very actions are the inspiration behind our 'Pay it Forward Scholarship Award.' We feel that David Kober, in addition to our other four finalists, will undoubtedly make a significant difference in our society during their lifetime."
A New York University (NYU) Economics and French major, Kober currently serves as president of his class, as well as the NYU Sponsorship Chairperson for The American Cancer Society Relay for Life. This year, Kober's chapter at NYU helped raise over $150,000 for the American Cancer Society. Before college, Kober volunteered at nursing homes, planning various events for the residents. Presently, he holds one of Manhattan's most prestigious financial internships at AXA financial, while continuing his volunteer work with nursing homes. Growing up, David's family struggled while his mother battled cancer, and he himself suffered from hemophilia. Kober's award will be put towards two consecutive semester's tuition.
The other four finalists, each receiving $1,000, included Victoria Grace Behrend of Englishtown, N.J., Mary Katherine Spinella of Englishtown, N.J., David Copernico of Lawrenceville, N.J., and Samantha Kiernan of Levittown, Pa. Their award money will be put towards a college education as well.
